Swansea trip

Hey all

Sadly i didn’t make it up to Nottingham for the three day poker trip that was planned, few factors got in the way. I did how ever go to Swansea on Thursday evening to play in the poker tournament at the casino, this was with a friend. I’ve summed up the game below – putting a few interesting hands and a comical hand in as well, hope you enjoy this small report.

Tournament info :
£30 entry (with half price single rebuy/addon)
28 runners
Rebuy 90mins
Clock 30min / level

First levels went good, felt very easy field – majority 40 years plus, so all pretty easy to read their basic plays. Build up a solid image in my opinion, didn’t show the few bluffs i made as wanted the “rock” image. Got all in 3 times vs same player – 1st time i make squeeze with 44 from big blind, there were 5 players in pot I shove for 5K into a 4K pot. Initial raiser “makes a good read” in his words, so calls with his KJ with 5 players behind him, I hold up. Once again we get it in i make move with AKs preflop – he re-raises from the button, I then insta push trying to look like a bluff – he calls with 55, I hit this time and stack up off him.

Our final action was another bad play by him in my opinion, I’m in small blind, i raise when folded down to me, regular raise for 3 times the blind 600chips, he then pushes on me for his 12K stack, I snap call with QQ, he shows his 99. He out draws me this time – board with 78T flop. He is loving it, thinking I will tilt out, but I don’t do tilt – especially in a cheap tournament like this one.

With the rebuy period over after 90 minutes I used mine as an addon – putting me in a middle chip stack on my table.

There was only one really interesting hand before hitting the final table. I have 23os in small blind, we get 6 limipers, I can help myself and get involved in the pot, flop hitting - 4h5s6s, this gives me the lower straight – I check, reasoning behind this is I feel anyone who has hit the flop will bet out to try to stop people drawing the flush, therefore I intend to re-raise when it comes back to me, this is the case and UTG bets out, therefore I re-raise him as planned, he then shoves over the top for extra 11K into a 22K pot, I insta call and he turns over the higher straight (7s8s) L . After thinking about the hand I thought I should have got away from this, but after further reflection I don’t think that a fold is correct – at the time I had 55K stack, don’t think a fold is good as I’m only ever behind to the 78, all other hands i smash (sets/flush draws/overpairs)

My final hand was a bluff – final table with 53os in big blind. UTG (chip leader) raises to 12K, i have 40K stack I shove on him – he takes about 4 mins to call with AQs (he’s terrible) and I donno become a lucky fish. Was happy as was splitting all winning with friend who was also in the final 4 so had a good result – he went on to take 2nd, after cash slit was agree for even money.

All in all i finished with £260 for a £45 outlay, about 580% return on money!

Comdey hand :

On the final table, very soon after the start, the guy that I had lots of hands all in with was sitting opposite me he has a 35K stack with 1/2K blinds. There was some banter on the table, talking about one of the other players who looked like he was falling asleep. Heres the convo :

Player to my right : Ha, shout raise now and you’ll wake him up
Me: Yeah, ill raise and steal his blind without waking him
Fool sitting opposite: “RAISE”

This takes place as it comes to his go – therefore floor decides he must now raise! So in anger he SHOVES 35K into the pot and say “Ill go all in then”. The limper UTG snap calls and shows ACES.

I was nearly crying inside, was so funny and he was extremely pissed about the situation. In my opinion if your gonna shout “RAISE” you should think about it first ! What a fool !

Peace out till next time !
